Breathing exercises

A quiet pause to soften the pace of your day. Gentle, controlled breathing may help you feel calmer and ease stress; a slower, comfortable rhythm may also help your heart rate settle. Everyone responds differently.

Pranayama Breathing 4-7-8

The 4-7-8 pattern invites an inhale for four counts, a pause for seven, and an exhale for eight. Listen first and follow only at a pace that feels easy. You can shorten the counts or skip the hold rather than forcing your breath.

Yogic Text Ratio Breathing

Explore a measured breathing practice with this playlist as your musical backdrop. Keep your breathing comfortable rather than aiming for a demanding ratio. Shorten a count or return to your natural rhythm whenever you need to.

Ambient Box Breathing 4444

Box breathing uses four equal phases: breathe in, pause, breathe out, then pause again, each for four comfortable counts. Let the ambient music accompany your practice. Shorten the counts or skip the pauses if holding your breath feels uncomfortable.

Equal Breathing (5½ Seconds)

Let the music accompany an even rhythm: breathe in gently for about five and a half seconds, then breathe out for the same length, without a hold. Use a shorter rhythm if that feels easier; comfort matters more than matching the timing.

Keep it gentle

Sit or lie somewhere supported, away from driving or tasks that need your attention. Keep the sound low and breathe softly, not as deeply as possible.

If you feel dizzy, tingling, breathless or uncomfortable, stop the exercise and return to your natural breathing. Breath holds are optional. If you have a heart or breathing condition, are pregnant, or find breath-focused practices distressing, ask a qualified healthcare professional which approach is suitable for you.

This is a relaxation practice, not treatment or a promise of a lower heart rate. There is no need to finish a pattern that does not feel right.
